Dr. Faisal Nouroz is serving as Chairperson, Department of Bioinformatics. He has completed his Ph.D and Post Doctoral experience in Molecular Cytogenetics and Bioinformatics (Transposable Elements/jumping genes evolution in Crops) from Department of Biology, University of Leicester, UK. Dr. Faisal Nouroz was born in District Abbottabad, Pakistan. He received his Master’s in Botany from University of Peshawar, Pakistan in 2001. He completed his M.Phil in Plant Physiology and Biotechnology from Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad, Pakistan in 2004. He joined Hazara University in 2005 as Lecturer in Botany. He won a HEC scholarship and left for University of Leicester, UK in March, 2008 for his Ph.D. He joined the most reputed Molecular Cytogenetics 7 Bioinformatics laboratory of University of Leicester, UK under the supervision of well-known researcher Professor Dr. J.S. (Pat) Heslop-Harrison. During his Ph.D, he worked on the Characterization and Evolutionary Genetics of various Transposable Elements in Diploid and Polyploid Brassica and Musa crops genomes by exploiting various Bioinformatics, Molecular & Cytogenetics approaches. During his Ph.D, he presented his research work in several National and International Conferences held in various European and Asian countries. After completion of his Ph.D, he gained a Post-Doctoral fellowship from University of Leicester in Molecular Genetics and Bioinformatics. After completion of his Post-Doctoral experience, he re-joined Department of Botany in 2012. He established Department of Bioinformatics in February 2014 and was appointed as founder Head of Department. Due to his experience in co-curricular activities, he was given additional charge as Director Student’s Affairs, Hazara University Mansehra, Pakistan. Currently, Dr. Faisal Nouroz is serving as Chairman, Department of Bioinformatics and supervising several M.Phil and Ph.D students in the field of Bioinformatics, Molecular and Plant Genetics. Associated with his research students at Hazara University and collaboration at University of Leicester, UK and several other international and national research institutions/organizations, he is working to explore various Transposable Elements superfamilies in various crops with the help of bioinformatics, molecular and cytogenetic techniques. His field of interest are Molecular Genetics/Biology, Genomics, Bioinformatics, Evolutionary Genetics and Plant Physiology. In addition, he is executive and general member of several societies and forums. He organized international conferences in various countries like UK, Dubai (UAE), Turkey, Thailand, Malaysia and Pakistan. In addition, he participated and presented his research work in several international conference in UK, Scotland, France, Germany, Check Republic, Poland, Turkey, UAE, and Malaysia. He was granted awards as ‘Best Teacher’, ‘Best Researcher’ by different organizations. He received several awards, shields, gold medal and appreciation letters on National and International levels. He is an active member of several societies and organizations.
